Swedish documentary filmmaker Mikael Silkeberg has started filming in Nakhchivan, APA reports.

The Swedish director told journalists that this is his third visit to Nakhchivan: “The 40-minute film presents Nakhchivan as one of the ancient cradles of human civilization. In the film, I tried to portray Nakhchivan as a living archive. I filmed magnificent sites such as Alinja Castle, often called the ‘Machu Picchu of Azerbaijan,’ the historical urban environment of Ordubad, including the unique Geysariyye complex, the Gamigaya rock carvings bearing some of the earliest traces of human creativity, as well as the sacred Ashabi-Kahf shrine where spiritual values and local beliefs still live on.”

Mikael Silkeberg noted that the film titled “Homeland Living in Memory” also reflects Nakhchivan’s rich intellectual and artistic heritage.

It was noted that the director's previous film, "Traces of Noah," was screened in several countries, including Europe.

The film “Homeland Living in Memory” is dedicated to the cultural heritage of Azerbaijanis who have experienced forced displacement in the South Caucasus, as well as how culture continues to live through memory, art, and traditions:

“Nakhchivan is a natural and important filming location for this project. This is not only due to its geographical proximity, but also because of its deep cultural, musical, and culinary connections with this heritage. I feel there is a natural closeness between Scandinavia and this region. In both places, people understand well that landscape, memory, and identity are closely interconnected. In both cultures, nature, history, and culture are inseparable. This film was also part of a broader dialogue - a cultural bridge between North and South, between Scandinavia and Azerbaijan. I hope that through this documentary, the international audience will get to know Azerbaijan not only through news reports, but through its culture, people, and human stories.”
