Russian People’s Artist Vera Alentova has died at the age of 83, APA reports.

The news was confirmed to TASS by the Moscow Drama Theatre named after A.S. Pushkin, where she worked for many years.

The cause of the actress’s death has not been disclosed.

Vera Alentova was born in 1942 in the city of Kotlas, in Russia’s Arkhangelsk Region.

She appeared in numerous stage productions and films and gained widespread fame for her role in the film Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears, directed by Vladimir Menshov. The film won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1981.

Recall that Vladimir Menshov was originally from Baku.
