On the occasion of National Music Day on September 18, the grave of the great composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli was visited at the Alley of Honor, APA reports.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of Culture Adil Karimli, responsible representatives of the ministry, and prominent figures of culture and art.
Adil Karimli congratulated the participants of the ceremony on the occasion of National Music Day and stated that September 18 is one of the most significant days of our culture: “The rich traditions of Uzeyir Hajibeyli are kept alive through works of art that have gained international recognition and possess great depth and form, and are introduced to the world by our talented artists.
Today, the National Music Day, celebrated with Azerbaijan’s own music, is by no means coincidental. This day is associated with the name of the founder of the national music school, the great composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli. Today, every Azerbaijani, whether in the country or living in different parts of the world, commemorates the memory of our great composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli with respect. This year marks the 140th anniversary of Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s birth. This significant date is being celebrated in our country at a high level and in a festive manner. A plan of events has been prepared. Within the framework of the 140th anniversary, the finest examples of Azerbaijan’s musical treasures are being widely performed not only in our country but also around the world. Concerts are even being organized in countries such as Italy, Austria, Germany, and Türkiye.”
Chairperson of the Union of Composers of Azerbaijan, People’s Artist Franghiz Ali-Zadeh, speaking about the immortal legacy of the great composer, stated that as long as the Azerbaijani people exist, his legacy will always live on.
Chairman of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union, Anar, noted that Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s legacy will always remain in the memory of Azerbaijani music.
After the speeches, the participants of the ceremony also visited the graves of Azerbaijani music legends laid in a rest in the Alley of Honor — Gara Garayev, Fikrat Amirov, Bulbul, Rashid Behbudov, Niyazi, and Muslim Magomayev.
Note that in connection with the 140th anniversary of Uzeyir Hajibeyli, a grand opening ceremony of the 17th Uzeyir Hajibeyli International Music Festival will be held this evening at the Heydar Aliyev Palace. The Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater will present Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s opera “Leyli and Majnun.”
For the first time in the history of the festival, the events of the music celebration will not only take place in the capital but will also cover more than 10 cities and regions of our country. On September 18, concerts and various events based on the musical works of Uzeyir Hajibeyli will be organized in Sumgayit, Mingachevir, Sabirabad, Shamakhi, Sheki, Bilasuvar, Fuzuli, Shamkir, Ganja, Lankaran, Khachmaz, and Goygol.
