On October 21 last year, the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (COPAT) sent a letter to the leadership of the Georgian National Intellectual Property Center "SAKPATENTI", the Agency told APA.
It was mentioned that the letter requested an investigation into the reasons behind the presentation of the Azerbaijani "Basqalı" dance as "Somxuri shalakho" – an Armenian shalakho – on the Georgian TV channels 1TV.CE, "IMEDI," and "Rustavi," as well as the omission of the source and the name of the people it belonged to when the Azerbaijani folk song "Bu qala, daşlı qala" was used. The letter called for appropriate measures to be taken, for the Intellectual Property Agency of Azerbaijan to be informed, and for the issue to be constantly monitored to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Additionally, relevant materials confirming the violations were also submitted to "SAKPATENTI." In response to the issue, "SAKPATENTI" informed the Intellectual Property Agency of Azerbaijan that it would clarify the matter regarding the violation of music rights on the television channels broadcast in Georgia.
In addition to providing more detailed legal information and resources regarding the violations, "SAKPATENTI" has contacted the relevant television channels with the aim of preventing such violations and restoring rights and is awaiting a comprehensive investigation and response letter on the matter. Furthermore, it has been specifically noted that legal and judicial mechanisms will be more extensively applied in relation to this issue.
The leadership of "SAKPATENTI" stated that they will carefully monitor the analysis and responses regarding this issue and will continue to take the necessary measures to resolve any legal disputes.
