Farhad Badalbeyli, People’s Artist and rector of the Baku Music Academy, has proposed creating a film-opera adaptation of the classic “Leyli and Majnun,” APA reports.
He made the suggestion during his speech at the international forum “The Legacy of Uzeyir Hajibeyli: From the Past to Today,” held as part of the 17th Baku International Music Festival.
Addressing Abdulhakeem Alsenana, director of ISESCO’s Regional Office in Baku, Badalbeyli highlighted the cultural significance of the work: “A treasure of this magnitude exists in Azerbaijan. Why not make use of it? This is also part of Arab history. I assure you, if this project comes to life, it could resonate across the entire Muslim world. Since it is connected to Arabia, why aren’t we producing ‘Leyli and Majnun’ as a film-opera in Arabic-speaking countries?”
