Azerbaijani musician Vagif Mustafazadeh's 85th anniversary celebrated in Moscow -PHOTO

A concert by Azerbaijani jazz pianist and composer, Honored Artist of Azerbaijan Shahin Novrasli, dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the outstanding musician and founder of jazz mugham, Vagif Mustafazadeh, was held at the Igor Butman Jazz Club in Moscow, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.

The concert was organized by the Vagif Mustafazadeh Charity Foundation, Igor Butman Jazz Club, and the Forteforma Foundation for the Support and Development of Cultural and Social Projects named after Vadim Alkhazov, with the support of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Russia.

Afaq Aliyeva, Director of the Vagif Mustafazadeh House-Museum and Chairwoman of the Board of the Charity Foundation, noted that such concerts are of particular importance in terms of preserving and developing the musical heritage of the great musician. According to her, contemporary performers continue the path laid down by Vagif Mustafazadeh, developing their own directions in jazz that are highly appreciated on world stages: “Today, one of the brightest representatives of this heritage, Shahin Novrasli, is performing on stage. He performs both his own works and the music of Vagif Mustafazadeh. It is precisely this unique path that increases global demand for our musicians and enables them to promote Azerbaijan,” she said.

Shahin Novrasli stated that performing at Igor Butman’s jazz club is a great honor for him.

Noting the strong interest of the Moscow audience, the musician emphasized that the concert was not only a solo performance by him, but also a tribute to the memory of Vagif Mustafazadeh, whose creativity has had a profound influence on several generations of musicians.

During the evening, compositions by Vagif Mustafazadeh were performed, as well as original works by Shahin Novrasli that naturally combine tradition and modern jazz thinking on the basis of mugham and improvisation.
