Director Matlab Mukhtarov's short documentary "Palaces of Memory" will compete at the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival, the director himself told APA.

He said that the screenplay will compete for the victory in the "Short Joy" section of the festival, intended for short documentary films.

The world premiere of the film "Palaces of Memory" will also be held within the framework of the festival.

The producer of the documentary, produced by the "Rental Azerbaijan" company, is Emil Najafli. "Palaces of Memory" is one of the winners of the 2024 competition for supporting film projects in the post-production stage, implemented by the Cinema Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ARKA).

In the film, the director goes in search of his "first memory" on the streets of Sumgayit, where he was born and raised. The trips bring him to the very place where the memory was created. This "first memory" is related to his father and deceased grandmother, whom he lost in infancy. In the end, the author's personal search for memories leads him to the traumas experienced by Azerbaijanis in the early 90s after the collapse of the USSR.

It should be noted that Matlab Mukhtarov's previous documentary film "12/35" was also screened at a number of international festivals.

It should be noted that the Festival, which was organized in 1997 in the Czech city of Jihlava, is traditionally held at the end of October. The Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival is considered one of the most prestigious festivals in the world in the field of documentary film.

The festival will take place from October 24 to November 2.
