US President Donald Trump said that Democrats would launch impeachment proceedings against him if Republicans lose the November congressional midterm elections, APA reports.
Trump made the remarks while addressing supporters in Oklahoma, where he was campaigning for Republican candidates ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. Reuters and AP reported that Trump has begun an intensive campaign push in Texas and Oklahoma to mobilize Republican voters.
He urged his supporters to actively participate in the elections, saying voter turnout among his supporters tends to be lower when his own name is not on the ballot.
Trump asked supporters to vote as if he himself were a candidate and claimed that Democrats would move to impeach him if Republicans failed to win the elections.
The US president is currently holding campaign events in support of Republican candidates ahead of the midterms.
Trump became the first US president to be impeached twice by the House of Representatives, in 2019 and 2021, during his first term in office. In both cases, the Senate did not reach the two-thirds majority required to convict him.
