The Peruvian Parliament will hold a meeting on February 18 to elect a new speaker, who will then take over as head of state from the dismissed José Jeri. This was announced by Acting Speaker of Congress Fernando Rospigliosi, APA reports.
"The election of the President of the Congress of the Republic will take place at a plenary session of the Congress on Wednesday, February 18, at 6:00 p.m.," he announced following the vote on the no-confidence motion against Heri.
Rospigliosi said that parties can propose their candidates until 18:00 on February 17 (02:00 Moscow time on February 18).
