Media: US suspends Patriot sales to Europe

The United States has suspended the sale of a number of military equipment to some European countries, in particular the Patriot air defense systems, APA reports, citing The Atlantic.

According to the publication's sources, the first indication of changes in the US attitude towards the sale of military equipment to Europe was the rejection of Denmark's request to purchase Patriot systems capable of shooting down ballistic missiles.

Administration officials told The Atlantic that US Deputy Secretary of Defense Elbridge Colby did not approve the sale of Patriot systems to Denmark because these systems are in short supply and, in his opinion, they should be kept only for US needs.

Administration sources say that the Pentagon has begun blocking new requests from Europe due to shortages of some types of weapons.

The sources did not say how long the blocking will last, what weapons other than the Patriot systems are on the list, and whether the list will be expanded. However, it is reported that exceptions will be made in very rare cases for the sale of such weapons.
