The report states that if President Donald Trump approves the plan, such a move would mark a transition to a new phase of the conflict, one that could be significantly more dangerous for US troops compared to the first four weeks.
The newspaper also notes that any ground operation would not be aimed at the full occupation of Iran.
Sources indicate that the primary objectives of such operations would be to seize Khark Island or to destroy weapons located in coastal areas near the Strait of Hormuz.
The report adds that it remains unclear whether Trump will approve any of the Pentagon’s proposed plans.
