Baku-APA. The Egyptian ruling military council has called for crisis talks with political parties after it rejected the resignation of the civilian government in the third day of violence in the country, APA reports quoting Press TV.

The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) issued a statement, saying they “invited all the political and national forces for an emergency dialogue,” Egypt’s publicly-funded MENA news agency reported on Tuesday.

At least 33 people have been killed and more than 1,830 others injured since clashes flared up on Saturday.

SCAF took power in February after the regime of former dictator Hosni Mubarak was toppled in a popular revolution.

It has refused to hand over power to a civilian power structure as it had promised to, triggering mass protests across the country.

Protesters have also censured the council’s Chairman Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi for his reluctance to implement sweeping change as well as refusing to dispose of the elements of the former regime.
