On October 16, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with Kairat Sarybay, Secretary General of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), the MFA told APA.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the outcomes of the 7th CICA Summit held in Baku on October 15, activities carried out within the framework of Azerbaijan's chairmanship of CICA for 2024–2026, the priorities of Azerbaijan's chairmanship and the organization for the coming period, as well as its institutional development.
The importance of successfully holding the 7th Summit under Azerbaijan's chairmanship in terms of strengthening dialogue, mutual understanding, and trust across Asia was emphasized. Confidence was expressed that the outcomes of the summit would contribute to further strengthening the organization's activities, expanding cooperation among member states, and promoting joint approaches to common challenges.
The importance of the agreements reached on the summit's final documents in determining the future directions of CICA's activities and increasing the organization's focus on practical results was emphasized.
The parties noted Azerbaijan's extensive experience in multilateral diplomacy and its successful chairmanship of international organizations, emphasizing that the country's chairmanship of CICA is aimed at enhancing the organization's international role and reputation, expanding opportunities for cooperation among member states, and promoting confidence-building measures.
The meeting touched upon the work carried out during Azerbaijan's chairmanship to accelerate CICA's institutional development, improve the efficiency of its activities, and expand its practical benefits for member states. Particular emphasis was placed on the development of cooperation in education, women's empowerment, youth, media, transport connectivity, and other areas, as well as the importance of platforms established in these fields. It was noted that the initiatives implemented serve to promote the exchange of experience among member states, strengthen mutual understanding, and create concrete opportunities for cooperation.
Secretary General Kairat Sarybay expressed his gratitude to the Azerbaijani side for the high-level organization of the 7th CICA Summit and Azerbaijan's contributions to the organization's activities during its chairmanship. He also thanked Azerbaijan for the support provided throughout his six years of service as Secretary General.
Kairat Sarybay noted the importance of Azerbaijan's chairmanship in terms of CICA's development, expanding cooperation within the organization, and strengthening trust among member states. He expressed confidence that efforts to strengthen the organization's activities would continue in the coming period and wished the new Secretary General, Sultan Hajiyev, success in his future activities.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in turn, thanked Secretary General Kairat Sarybay for his successful work during his tenure and wished him success in his future professional activities.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
