Egyptian border guard shot injured by traffickers

Baku-APA. An Egyptian border guard was shot and injured in his abdomen by illegal migrant smugglers, a security source said on Monday, APA reports quoting news.xinhuanet.com website.

Mohamed Abdel Moneim Farag, 22, was sent to the El-Arish hospital with a bullet wound. The guard was shot while addressing a group of traffickers who tried to smuggle Africans to Israel, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The smugglers fled away into the desert and the Egyptian police are still searching for them.

With the organization of smugglers, illegal migrants, mostly from Africa, have frequently attempted to cross into Israel to seek jobs through the border areas in Egypt’s North Sinai. Egyptian police have strengthened their monitoring of the migrants in recent years and shot dead or injured dozens of them due to their ignorance of warnings.
