Car blast kills two, injures 13 in Yemen

Baku-APA. Yemeni officials say a bomb attack has left two people dead and 13 others injured, nearly a week after â€œterror plotâ€ allegations against the country, APA reports Press TV.

A car bomb detonated on Thursday in front of a security building in Yemen’s southern city of Dalea, Reuters quoted a Yemeni official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The explosives-wired car belonged to an intelligence official, he added without elaborating.

The official said the Yemeni authorities have not been able to identify the group or individual behind the attack.

In another attack on Thursday, masked gunmen shot and wounded a soldier at a checkpoint elsewhere in Dalea province.

On Friday, the discovery of "suspicious" parcels aboard a US-bound United Arab Emirates (UAE) airliner triggered panic in the US and some European countries, causing major airports to tighten security.

FBI claimed it had intercepted a total of 20 suspected parcels allegedly shipped from Yemen -- a charge rejected by the UAE Civil Aviation Authority.

"The Emirates plane that arrived today in the United States from Dubai did not contain any packages from Yemen," an unnamed official told Emirati WAM news agency on Saturday.

Another cargo plane in Britain en route to the US was also claimed to be carrying the "suspicious packages".

However, the FBI later admitted that the packages intercepted in Britain contained no explosives.

US-Canadian military agency NORAD that made the claims of the "suspicious packages" caused a media hype with its threat alert.

US strikes in southern Yemen have in the past killed many civilians, but Washington claims the attacks targeted suspected al-Qaeda hideouts.
