World Bank ready to further support ongoing social security reforms in Azerbaijan

Baku. Vahab Rzayev – APA-Economics. A meeting of familiarization was held between the senior officials of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population and the delegation of the Human Development Department of the World Bank, APA-Economics reports quoting the Ministry’s public affairs department.

Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population Salim Muslumov said the cooperation between the World Bank and Azerbaijan is developing, this cooperation plays a special role in the ongoing labor and social security reforms in the country. Speaking about the work done within the Project on the Development of Social Security, Minister said the project contributed to improving the social security system in the country. He noted that there is a need for the technical assistance of the World Bank in applying contact-free service principle and modern methods in determining disability.

Alberto Rodriguez, acting sector chief of the Human Development Department, sector manager for Europe and Central Asia, said the World Bank is interested in the development of cooperation with Azerbaijan. Alberto Rodriguez underlined that they are ready to further support the ongoing social security reforms in Azerbaijan, where dynamic socio-economic progress is ensured.

The sides exchanged views on future cooperation, implementation of the new project on improvement of social services and labor force. The project will improve social welfare of the vulnerable groups, increase competitiveness.
