Armenia's withdrawal from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) could reduce the country's economic growth rate by approximately 0.65 percentage points, excluding other factors, Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan told journalists in parliament today, Armenpress reports.
Responding to a question about how prepared Armenia's economy is for such a development amid the possible deepening of problems within the EAEU, the Minister stated that the final outcome would also depend on other negative and positive factors.
"If we leave the EAEU and there are no other consequences, the impact on the economy itself will be negative 0.65 percentage points. That is, for example, if the economy was expected to grow by 6.6%, in the absence of other factors, it would grow by 6%," Papoyan noted.
He emphasized that accompanying effects should also be taken into account when making the assessment. The Minister cited the potential impact of customs duties on gas prices as an example.
