Deputy Director for Science of Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory named after Nasraddin Tusi of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Elchin Babayev told APA that the geomagnetic storm occurred on March 17 strengthened in the evening and its Kp index was 8 on 9-point scale.
The storm is among the strongest in the current 11-year solar cycle, earning a rating of a “severe” G4. The geomagnetic storm is underway, but it is about to subside. Negative impact will be felt across mid-latitudes today and tomorrow. People of risk group are recommended to take preventive measures. Reports about negative impacts on ground-based and circumterrestrial technological systems will be supposedly disseminated in coming days.”
