According to the 2015 report of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, within the project titled “Potential seismic hazard of Azerbaijan's oil and gas regions and oil pipelines: modern analysis and measures” carried out with the support of the Science Foundation, cluster analysis and mathematical and statistical methods of multidimensional alignment were used to assess the dynamics of the series of earthquakes affecting oil and gas fields in the Caspian Sea.
That method was applied to Absheron-Balakhani zone and it was revealed that spatial distribution of earthquakes are near oil and gas fields, regularities were found to prevent and accompany seismic events. Seismic hazard models in the area of Balakani oil-gas field were developed through deterministic method.
