Sharp decline in natural growth in Azerbaijani-populated Georgian region

In the first six months of 2017, there was a sharp decline in natural growth in Georgia’s Kvemo Kartli region, densely populated by Azerbaijanis, said a report by Georgia’s National Statistical Office.

 

The population growth in the region made up 336 people from January till June, down 58.6% (812 people) compared to the same period of 2016.

 

As for other major demographic indicators of Kvemo Kartli during the reporting period, the number of newborns in January-June amounted to 2,681 people, the number of deaths was 2,345, and the number of marriages and divorces amounted to 1,233 and 510, respectively.

 

According to the latest census conducted in Georgia in 2014, 423,986 people live in Kvemo Kartli. Of them, 177,032 are Azerbaijanis.
