Rare rhinoceros beetle found in Azerbaijanâ€™s Astara

According to him, they are named rhinoceros beetle because of a protuberance on their forehead which makes them look like the rhinoceros.

“This is a scarcely found species. They live mostly in the northern hemisphere, in other words in Asia. They have been a lot more in our country in the past. But they have been hard to find in recent times,” he said.

This species which is the very rare in the country is considered one of the world’s strongest beetles for the variety of its features, the biologist said, noting its price is said to be worth $90,000-100,000.

“In many countries, mostly in Japan, fights are conducted between beetles. Therefore, they are called “Rhinoceros beetle”. Thus, these beetles have the ability to lift and carry loads heavier 30 times than their weight”, he added.

According to the biologist, the rhinoceros beetle is able to grow 5 cm, in some cases up to 10-12 cm.

The rhinoceros beetle which is being kept in a plastic box, basically feeds on fruits and vegetables.
