The Group is carrying out observations on a constant basis, taking samples from the air and water, the ministry told APA.

As a result of the observations jerky, small, unstable, glossy spots have been detected around the platform. And these spots are mostly remains of condensate, not oil. They evaporate easily due to their light content and therefore they have minimum effect on the aqua life. The water samples taken from these spots are being thoroughly analyzed.

It was defined that density of oil products was relatively high above the norm (norm: 0,05 mg/l, factual: 0,11 mg/l), which is the minimum limit for the scale of the incident. The dynamics of the continuous analysis conducted by experts in the Caspian Sea for many years, the pollution limit doesn’t differ from general indicators. Not only Azerbaijan produces oil in the Caspian Sea. Other Caspian littoral countries are still using old technologies in many circumstances and therefore, oil spills are regularly observed in the Caspian Sea.

The fantastic information on 200-300 km2 offshore area’s being covered with oil spills has nothing to do with the accident. Photos taken from space, and the analysis and observations carried out by the ministry’s experts refute this allegation. The samples taken from the atmosphere confirm the emission of carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides into the air.
