Baku. Konul Kamilqizi – APA. A powerful landslide has occurred in Azerbaijan’s Ismayilli district.
Head of the Party of Study of Exogenous Geological Processes of the Geological planning expedition of National Geological Exploration Service under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources Sadiq Amiraslanov told APA that the landslide on the road to Ismayilli’s Zarnava village occurred as a result of torrential rains and hailstorm on May 28-29.
The landslide was measured 350-400 metres in width and 500 metres in length. As a result of the accident, there was a fault on the road measuring 8-10 metres.
Consequently, the road to the village has been completely blocked. From May 29 to the present day, landslide activity is being observed in the same zone.
Yesterday the ministry’s experts conducted a study on the site: “Yesterday, it was impossible even for a pedestrian to cross the slid area. Currently, there is a high landslide activity. As a result of the landslide, underground waters formed a series of ponds, which increases landslide activity every minute”.
Amiraslanov said private houses in the village were not affected by the landslide in any way. According to him, it’s impossible to make any kind of intrusion to the area at the moment: “We just need to look through alternative roads to enter the village. Because there must be an alternative road to enter the village”.
The ministry official said the landslide zone is active and expanding every passing second.
