The Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) may decide next week to temporarily suspend Armenia's voting rights in the organization due to unpaid membership fees, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin said in an interview with TASS, APA reports.
According to him, Armenia has not paid its membership fees to the organization's budget for more than two years, making it possible to raise the issue of applying restrictions stipulated in the CSTO Charter.
The Russian deputy foreign minister noted that this is a technical procedure provided for in the CSTO Charter. According to him, the final decision will depend on the positions of the heads of the organization's member states.
Note that Armenia announced the suspension of its participation in the CSTO in 2024 and stopped paying membership fees. At the same time, the organization's charter does not provide for a procedure to suspend membership. Therefore, Armenia officially remains a member of the CSTO alongside Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
