About 120 square meters of the mound was destroyed as a result of the excavations carried out in the northern part of the burial mound for almost five hours, head of the commission, senior researcher of the ANAS Institute of Archeology and Ethnography, Khagani Almammadov told APA.

According to him, during the destruction of the top of the mound consisting of stones and gravel, graves dating back to 18th-19th centuries were destroyed and the bones of the buried people were scattered around.

“The mound was brutally destroyed. No traces of the burial chamber were detected during our observations in the ruined walls. Perhaps, as the chamber was located in the center, it didn’t undergo destruction”, he said.

He went on to add that the excavations will cause the destruction of the whole mound and the burial chamber. “The excavation was carried out non-professionally by the purpose of plundering,” he said.
