For this reason, about 105 litres blood donated by 210 people was burnt,” head physician of the Central Blood Bank of the Institute of Hematology and Transfusion named after B. Eyvazov under the Health Ministry Parvana Hajiyeva told APA.

She said that blood donated by every citizen on Ashura Day has been kept in the fridge at the Central Blood Bank for three hours and has been examined for the presence of four infections - Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV, and Syphilis. Hajiyeva said that HIV infection is rarely found in blood while the other three infections are often found: “No HIV infection was found this year, but one HIV infection was found last year.”

Hajiyeva addressed the citizens in whose blood the infections were found. She said that all data is kept anonymous at the Blood Bank: “But those who donated blood on Ashura Day can come to us with an identity card and get information about their blood. These 210 people had better come to get information about the infections and take necessary measures. Maybe they do not know that they have an infection in the blood. Otherwise, it will lead to serious problems in the future.
