Azerbaijani Health Ministry reveals a large amount of useless and expired medicines

Baku. Konul Kamilgizi – APA. Azerbaijan's Ministry of Health found a large amount of useless and expired medicines in 2014.

As a result of inspections carried out in the country last year, 1490 boxes of medicines without analysis protocols on suitability for use, and 4 boxes of expired medicines were found and seized, the Drugs Quality Control Department told APA.

Moreover, as a result of the inspections carried out by the department, the facts of violation of rules of dispensing prescription medicine without a medical prescription or dispensing medicines to juveniles were revealed in 3 pharmacies, and protocols were drawn up and filed against the heads of the pharmacies under Article #230.1 of the Code on Administrative Violations. In addition, the Health Ministry suspended the activity of one pharmacy as it ensured the sale of the first-line anti-tuberculous drug “Streptomycin” whose open sale was prohibited as well as the sale of a number of medicines without state registration.
