In 2025, a significant increase was observed in the number of people applying to donate their organs after death, the Coordination Center for Organ Donation and Transplantation of the Ministry of Health said in response to APA’s inquiry.
It was also noted that in 2025, the number of people in need of bone marrow transplantation was approximately close to 550: “Among individuals in need of bone marrow transplantation, patients with thalassemia make up the majority. Since thalassemia is a chronic blood disease, these recipients can wait for a certain period until a suitable donor is found. However, there are other oncological blood diseases as well, particularly acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and acute myeloblastic leukemia (AML), the rapid progression of which poses a life-threatening risk for recipients.”
