Baku. Kamala Guliyeva – APA. Archeological excavations have been started to determine the exact age of Ganja, the second largest city of Azerbaijan, deputy director for scientific affairs at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Ganja Scientific Center Samir Pishnamazzadeh told APA.
According to him, the archeological excavations have been started in Zurnabad, the ancient territory of Ganja: “Historically, Ganja city was relocated 5 times. The current Ganja is the fifth and was laid down in 1606 by Shah Abbas. One of them is located around “Imamzadeh” religious complex and the other in the current territory of Goranboy region. At present, the excavations are being carried out in the forest area in Zurnabad and Gadarmish villages.”
Samir Pishnamazzadeh said that the excavations were organized by the US Smithsonian Institution, Ganja Mayor’s Office and ANAS Ganja Scientific Center. Samples were taken and resent to the US for chemical analysis.
