Landslides in Azerbaijan become active, new landslide areas formed, Agency chairman says

There is activity in the landslide areas within the country, the process is under control, and thorough monitoring is being conducted, Ali Aliyev, the chairman of the Geological Exploration Agency, said in response to an inquiry of APA.

He stated that, recently, due to intense seasonal atmospheric precipitation in the country, activity has been observed in some landslide areas: "Monitoring of the existing landslide areas continues. The main active landslide areas are in the southern region, the Absheron Peninsula, the Shamakhi-Ismayilli area, and partially in the Gabala-Agdash zone."

Speaking about the latest situation in the landslide area formed in the territory of the Takhtakorpu reservoir due to the influence of atmospheric sediments and technogenic factors in the last decade of 2023, the Chairman of the Agency stated that a rupture had occurred in this landslide area, with a width of 65-70 meters and a length of 85-90 meters, and that a plan of measures is being developed by the relevant authorities to prevent further sliding.
