US and European stock markets continue to decline

Global stock markets showed mixed dynamics on October 23, although most major indices declined, APA-Economics reports. All leading indices fell in the US, mainly declines were recorded in Europe, while changes in different directions were observed in the Asia-Pacific region.

In the US, the Dow Jones index fell by 652.82 points, or 1.23%, to 52,215.16 points. The S&P 500 index declined by 39.75 points, or 0.52%, to 7,623.68 points, while the Nasdaq Composite index dropped by 53.52 points, or 0.21%, to 25,955.34 points.

The NYSE Composite index fell by 158.26 points, or 0.65%, to 24,117.27 points, while Canada's S&P/TSX Composite index declined by 185.27 points, or 0.52%, to 35,788.18 points.

European stock markets also recorded mainly negative dynamics. The Euro Stoxx 50 index fell by 18.79 points, or 0.31%, to 6,068.22 points, while the UK's FTSE 100 index declined by 34.67 points, or 0.32%, to 10,690.36 points.

Germany's DAX index dropped by 190.10 points, or 0.75%, to 25,181.65 points, while France's CAC 40 index declined by 28.44 points, or 0.36%, to 7,782.82 points. Spain's IBEX 35 index, however, rose by 76.30 points, or 0.40%, to 18,989.80 points.

Mixed dynamics were observed in the Asia-Pacific region. Japan's Nikkei 225 index fell by 214.68 points, or 0.34%, to 62,693.16 points, while the TOPIX index declined by 31.69 points, or 0.79%, to 3,965.81 points.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose by 158.69 points, or 0.69%, to 23,093.37 points, while China's CSI 300 index increased by 69.03 points, or 1.71%, to 4,105.33 points.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 index increased by 0.02% to 8,795.23 points, while the regional MSCI AC Asia Pacific index rose by 0.05% to 258.82 points.

The declines in stock markets are mainly attributed to rising tensions in the Middle East, increasing oil prices, growing inflation risks, and concerns about the profitability of investments in the artificial intelligence sector.
