Iran's largest solar power plant, Balman, produces 1,800 megawatt-hours of electricity per day, APA's bureau in Iran's Markazi Province reports.
Iran's largest solar power plant has reached a daily electricity production capacity of 1,800 megawatt-hours following the completion of its capacity expansion.
The plant, which was initially commissioned five months ago with a capacity of 130 megawatts, has now reached a production capacity of 277 megawatts.
Jamshid Rahimi, Director General of the Balman Solar Power Plant, told APA in an interview that the plant plays an important role in addressing the energy shortage in the region.
According to him, the plant was commissioned with a $70 million investment from the private sector.
Rahimi noted that the construction of the plant was completed within one year, and efforts were made to minimize environmental damage during the works.
He added that the plant uses 450,000 solar panels with a capacity of 700 watts each, imported from China. According to him, these panels have the highest efficiency and productivity indicators among solar panels available worldwide. The electricity generated at the plant helps address a significant portion of the country's existing energy shortage.
It should be noted that, according to official sources, Iran's electricity infrastructure suffered extensive damage during the recent war. Based on technical assessments, this damage reduced the capacity of the country's electricity grid by approximately 4,200 megawatts, while more than 2,000 points of the grid were damaged.
Iran has faced electricity shortages in recent years, particularly in the industrial sector.
Uncontrolled growth in electricity consumption, illegal use of electricity for cryptocurrency mining, and insufficient investment in the electricity sector are cited among the main causes of Iran's energy shortage.
