The current conflict in Ukraine can only be resolved at the negotiating table, and the United States is ready to act as a mediator, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in an interview with India Today, APA reports.
"This conflict is extremely difficult to resolve," he said, noting that US President Donald Trump is devoting enormous attention to it. "We have staff members who spend their days solely focused on finding ways to overcome existing differences," Rubio added.
"It's not easy, but I'll say this: no matter how difficult it is, achieving a result is impossible unless both sides sit down at the negotiating table. We're ready to act as a mediator. That's exactly what we're trying to do. We're not claiming that the mere fact of a meeting between the parties will automatically resolve the issue, but without such a meeting, a settlement is fundamentally impossible," the Secretary of State stated.
According to him, "the question is whether it's possible to find a compromise in which both sides will make concessions to end the war." "This conflict cannot be resolved militarily. It can only be resolved diplomatically. The main task is to find a solution in which each side gains some benefit, but also makes concessions that will allow the confrontation to end," Rubio noted.
