More than 1500 delegates from all regions of Azerbaijan joined the congress.
First Lady of Egypt Susan Mubarak, Turkey’s Minister of Women and Families Issues Nimet Chubukchu, Chairwoman of US-Azerbaijan Society Tomris Azeri, State Secretary of the Lithuanian Defense Ministry Jurate Raquchiene, Secretary General of the Jordanian National Committee for Women Issues Esma Khader and Deputy Chairman of Russian Council of Federation Svetlana Orlova, Mother of Georgian President Giuli Alasania are attending the congress as the guests.
In her opening speech at the congress, chairwoman of the State Committee for Families, Women and Children Problems Hicran Huseynova said 1620 delegates have already been registered. Then Chief of the Department of Humanitarian Affairs of the President’s Office Fatma Abdullazadeh read the President Ilham Aliyev’s letter of congratulation to the congress. Highly appreciating the current activity of Azerbaijani women, the head of state said Azerbaijani women showed heroism in the protection of our traditions.
President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, member of the parliament Mehriban Aliyeva congratulated the congress participants. She said name of woman was always sacred in Azerbaijan. Looking at the history we can see the difficult and honorable way of Azerbaijani women, said Mehriban Aliyeva. She said today 40 per cent of employees of the government organizations were women in Azerbaijan. The congress is continuing its work.

Joining the congress via video-conference Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund Thoraya Obaid and Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe Maud de Boer-Buquichio congratulated the congress participants and wished them new achievements in their comprehensive activity.
After the screening of documentary about the role of Azerbaijani women in modern life, chairwoman of the State Committee for Families, Women and Children Problems Hicran Huseynova made a report. She said participation of the women in decision-making process and government bodies increased and there were nearly 90 women organizations in the country currently. “One of the three deputy speakers of the parliament in Azerbaijan, one of the chairs of standing commissions, 14 of 125 members of the parliament are the women. Azerbaijani women’s congress is held on the eve of presidential elections, which is the main point of the meeting. Azerbaijani women will make right choice in the upcoming presidential elections. They will vote for the stability, dynamic development and confident future. They will vote for Ilham Aliyev, who is realizing his promises in his activity and who is the guarantee of the stability”.
After the children’s congratulations to the congress participants, dinner break was announced.
Address to the President of Azerbaijan and international organizations, as well as final resolution will be adopted at the one-day congress.
Today 11.2% of members of the parliament, 39 % of public servicemen and 14 % of judges are the women in Azerbaijan. There are 3062 women PhD and 226 Doctor of Sciences in the country. The Women’s I congress was held on September 14-15, 1998 and II Congress on September 27, 2003.
