As a result of comprehensive operational-search and customs control measures carried out by officers of the Astara Customs Administration, an especially large quantity of narcotic drugs — dried marijuana — was detected and removed from illegal circulation, the State Customs Committee told APA-Economics.
At the Astara customs post, a vehicle transporting a cargo of "fresh cauliflower" from the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation via transit through the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan was subjected to customs inspection using a stationary X-ray scanner and a customs canine.
During the inspection, an especially large quantity of narcotic drugs — dried marijuana with a net weight of 90 kilograms and 945 grams — was discovered concealed from customs control in 160 packages on one pallet, disguised to resemble cauliflowers.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
