Noting that the Azerbaijanis are tolerant, the committee chairman said some foreign trends tried to realize their intentions in Azerbaijan,
“But we are preventing them. There were a group of persons, who like full time employees visited various mosques and beat themselves with chains, as if they received honorarium,” he said.

Orujov said religious communities must be engaged in the promotion of religion.

Chairman of the State Committee said there were 1802 mosques in Azerbaijan. Their number was 18 in the Soviet times. According to Orujov, no one has the right to build, or restore a mosque without the opinion of the committee.
“If it happens, it will be prevented. Everything must be solved within the framework of the law,” he said.

According to Hidayat Orujov, the committee has high-level relations with the Caucasian Muslims Office, earlier it was not so. Once the committee had wrong attitude towards the Caucasian Muslims Office.
“It should be regarded as anti-state policy. The relations became positive after the new leadership came into force in the committee,” he said.
