Baku – APA. Russian Orthodox Church proposed to declare January 7, the day of Napoleon’s expulsion from Russia, which was declared by Tsar Alexander I, a National Holiday of the country.

This holiday was marked in Russia until 1915, but was banned for political reasons when Russia became France’s ally in that year.

Other religious confessions of Russia also supported the proposal. Mufti Council’s Gulnur Gazeyeva found it as an interesting proposal and said Muslims made serious contribution to the Russia’s victory over Napoleon.
