Every time I come to Tashkent, I witness rapid development, President Ilham Aliyev said in a joint press statement with the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, APA's special correspondent reports.

“First of all, I would once again like to thank you for the invitation, hospitality and sincere attitude toward Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijani people. We have the same warm and brotherly feelings toward Uzbekistan and the brotherly people of Uzbekistan. The results of today’s visit once again confirm this.

“First of all, I would like to note once again that this is not my first visit to Tashkent, and every time I am here, I witness rapid development. This is evident in everything – both in major projects and in individual details. Today, Tashkent and Turkestan as a whole are on the rise. This is the result of the work of my dear brother Shavkat Mirziyoyev aimed at strengthening Uzbekistan’s potential, consolidating the country’s position in the international arena and addressing the most important socioeconomic issues.

“When Shavkat Mirziyoyev began leading Uzbekistan, the situation was completely different. The citizens of Uzbekistan know this very well, and we know it too. Therefore, he had to make tremendous efforts to put the country on the path of development and to build, practically from scratch, the economic foundations for the development of the state.

“It was necessary to diversify the economy, develop industry, develop agriculture, again in a diversified manner, and attract investment to those sectors of the economy that have great potential and need investment. Today, however, we see a completely different Uzbekistan. This is an Uzbekistan that enjoys great respect in the international community and addresses issues related to industrial development, agriculture, energy and transport infrastructure very promptly and efficiently.

“Everything Shavkat Mirziyoyev said about our bilateral relations applies, first and foremost, to the work that he and his team have done for Uzbekistan. I have already spoken about this today. Without this initial foundation and this potential, it would have been impossible to implement any joint projects.

“In general, before Shavkat Mirziyoyev assumed the leadership of Uzbekistan, there were no joint projects between our countries. Today, however, we speak of the target of $1 billion in trade turnover not as a dream for some distant future, but as a figure that we will probably reach within a few years.

“The investment projects discussed today, mutual investments and initiatives directed specifically toward the sectors that our economies require and need – none of this would have been possible if both countries had not been advancing along parallel paths of development,” the head of state said.
