Russian President Vladimir Putin called for the expansion of the United Nations Security Council during the BRICS summit in New Delhi on Saturday, APA reports.
The Russian leader stated that the body should be changed to include countries from the Global South, calling BRICS the largest association in the world. "The global balance of power is being redistributed in favor of new growth centers in the Global South and East," he emphasized, expanding on the ideas shared by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Still, Putin chose to underscore how Russia attaches exceptional importance to preserving and strengthening the central role of the UN in global affairs.
