Twenty-eight people at a stadium in Kyoto were taken to hospital after eating boxed lunches on Saturday afternoon in a suspected case of food poisoning, first responders and other sources said, APA reports citing Kyodo.
At around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, a facility staffer at Takebishi Stadium Kyoto made an emergency call reporting that multiple people had complained of feeling unwell during a track and field event.
Of the 28 people, including juveniles and elderly people, two were in serious condition but conscious, according to the event organizer and other sources. Symptoms included vomiting and diarrhea.
Those who ate the boxed lunches were all event officials or staff, the organizing body said, adding that it had catered about 500 lunches of four types.
The 74th Japan Corporate Teams Athletics Championships are being held at the stadium from Friday through Sunday.
