Armenian MP: Armenia may increase military base rent if Russia raises gas price

If Russia increases the price of gas, Armenia may increase the rent for the 102nd Russian military base to remain in the country, Chairman of the Defense Committee of the Armenian Parliament Vilen Gabrielyan, an MP from Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's party, stated in an interview with the Factor news portal.

Commenting on Pashinyan's statement yesterday, he noted that if Russia raises the price of gas, the Armenian side will also consider which services it could increase the prices of, or matters that have so far been free but for which proportionate payment could subsequently be required:

“My personal position is that, from a financial point of view, such a recalculation could also take place within the framework of the military base. Because, as we know, a large part of the costs of the territory and the maintenance [of the military base – ed.] is covered by Armenia.”
