From September 7 to 11, the 4th Climate Week of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the concurrent Baku Climate Action Week were held at the Baku Congress Center, hosted and organized by Azerbaijan, APA reports citing press service of Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A total of 68 events were organized during the week, with approximately 2,700 delegates from more than 140 countries registering to participate.
In addition to state delegations, representatives from various international organizations, non-governmental organizations, the private sector, and academic circles took part in the events.
Within the framework of the UNFCCC Climate Week, eight mandated meetings addressing various aspects of the international climate agenda—stemming from decisions made at the Conference of the Parties—were held, alongside events hosted by the COP30 and COP31 presidencies and a series of sessions within the UNFCCC Executive Forum. In parallel with the Baku Climate Action Week, Azerbaijan organized a total of 37 events covering topics aligned with the Azerbaijan COP29 Presidency’s Action Agenda, as well as other relevant subjects.
Additionally, in accordance with the mandate adopted at COP30, consultations were held within the framework of the "Belém Mission 1.5" Troika—comprising the COP29, COP30, and COP31 presidencies (Azerbaijan, Brazil, Türkiye, and Australia)—regarding the implementation of National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
It should be noted that hosting UNFCCC Climate Weeks follows a rotation principle among the UN regional groups.
Of the two UNFCCC Climate Weeks held in 2026, the first took place in April in the Republic of Korea (Asia-Pacific region), while the second was hosted by Azerbaijan (Eastern European region).
