The upper age limit for conscription into active military service is being reduced from 35 to 30, this was reflected in President Ilham Aliyev's decree on the introduction of amendments to the law "On Military Duty and Military Service", APA reports.
According to the current law, conscripts are male citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan aged 18 to 35 who have not completed their initial military registration or have not completed their mandatory military service. According to the amendment, conscripts will be male citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan aged 18 to 30 who have not completed their initial military registration or have not completed their mandatory military service.
Thus, if conscripts who have lost the right to deferment from conscription, as well as persons who do not have the right to deferment or who do not have the grounds for exemption from conscription as provided for in this Law, and who were not called up for fixed-term active military service within the specified periods for various reasons, were to be called up for military service during the next conscription until they reach the age of 35, according to the amendment, these persons will be called up for military service during the next conscription until they reach the age of 30.
