Georgia’s imprisoned former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has been involved in the investigation into the death of human rights defender Lazare Jorbenadze, APA’s local bureau reports.

Representatives of the Georgian Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs entered Penitentiary Facility No. 12 in the city of Rustavi, where the former head of government is being held.

Irakli Garibashvili is being questioned over a recent statement in which he drew attention to what he described as the real reason behind Lazare Jorbenadze’s suicide.

It should be noted that the Georgian Prosecutor General’s Office said it had been confirmed that the human rights defender died by suicide on April 4 of this year. Several opposition figures, in addition to Irakli Garibashvili, are also expected to be questioned as part of the investigation.
