The British military has been ordered to cancel all planned exercises to save money, APA reports citing The Times.
According to him, to save £30 million ($40.6 million), all exercises planned to involve more than 90 military personnel have been paused. All such activities must cease immediately.
According to the article, large-scale army exercises have been cancelled, including a six-week live-fire exercise involving Challenger 2 tanks and Apache attack helicopters in Wales. Reservist training related to these exercises was also cancelled at the last minute. The publication notes that only units scheduled for deployment, in readiness mode, or performing rapid-response duties will continue full training.
The Times compares the current situation to 1973, when the armed forces were ordered to cut fuel costs by 10% due to the oil crisis. However, the current restrictions are described as even more severe.
