SOFAZ income from equity investments approaches $11 billion - EXCLUSIVE

The current value of the State Oil Fund of the Republic of Azerbaijan’s (SOFAZ) portfolio of equities listed in developed markets reached $18 billion in the first half of this year, the Fund said in response to APA-Economics' inquiry.

According to the information, the current value of the portfolio stood at $16.5 billion at the end of 2025. Thus, in the first half of 2026, the portfolio’s current value increased by $1.5 billion, or 9.1%.

As of June 30, 2026, the amount invested by SOFAZ in this area totaled $7.1 billion. Income generated since the portfolio was established reached $10.9 billion, while the return stood at 370%.

For comparison, at the end of 2025, income generated amounted to $9.4 billion, while the return was 330%. Accordingly, accumulated income increased by $1.5 billion, or approximately 16%, in the first half of the year.

It should be noted that SOFAZ mainly uses a passive management strategy for its equity investments and tracks the MSCI World Index. The index covers the shares of 1,283 companies across 11 sectors in 23 developed countries.
