APA reports that the aim of the campaign is to draw attention to the arrested, persecuted and intimidated journalists.
“Every week, a journalist is killed simply for doing his or her job. Nine out of 10 cases go unpunished. Every murder represents a day without news,” – he said.
Ban Ki-moon noted that in the last 10 years, more than 600 journalists have been murdered. 121 journalists were killed last year. Forty-one of these deaths took place in Syria.
