APA reports that Public TV Broadcasting Board has elected new chairman through debate. Chairman of Public TV Broadcasting Board Jahangir Mammadli said that the election was held with the participation of 8 board members.
Four – Shafiyev Shamil Ali, Guliyev Jamil Elshad, Mustafayev Nijat Gafur and Huseynov Emin Rafik submitted applications for the post of Director General of the Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company.
Prior to the elections, the applicants for the post of Director General of the Public TV have outlined their platforms. Shamil Shafiyev, one of the applicants, said that his main intention is to closely participate in the formation of national consciousness of the society.
Emin Huseynli said that it is not right to hold the election hastily: “I offer to delay the election process. At least, each of the four applicants could have been given equal screen time and every applicant could have explained his program. I consider that the elections must be delayed.”
Emin Huseynli’s proposal has been put to vote and rejected by members of Broadcasting Board.
Jamil Guliyev noted that if he is elected as Director General of Public TV, he will attach importance to Azerbaijanism ideas, constructive dialogue and professionalism. Public TV can play a great role in this issue. Guliyev has also clarified why he is going to work at Public TV instead of “Culture TV”: “Public TV has wide opportunities to affect the society. I intend to protect people’s national consciousness and artistic taste. Television is the main structure that forms the public taste. I will try to take new steps towards culture, art and training and education of young people.”
Nijat Mustafayev said that he has been working at Public TV from since it was established.
“I will try to increase the number of news from the regions. The law envisages good opportunities for Public TV to make profit. Public TV does not make profit of advertising well. The quality of Public TV’s programs reduced after 2006. If I am elected as Director, I will not make revolution, at least I will return the Public TV’s coloring in 2006,” he said.
NTRC chairman Nushiravan Maharramli commented on the remark that elections were hasty.
“The main job of the NTRC is to exercise legal control over the election of Public TV Director General. If Ismayil Omarov had participated in the elections, we would have prolonged it. As he did not participate in the elections, we decided to hold the elections early,” he said.
Following this, the members of the Broadcasting Board held election of new Director General of the Public TV.
Under the decision of the Broadcasting Board, Jamil Guliyev was elected as new Director General of Public TV.
