Azerbaijani journalists have visited Registan Square, one of Samarkand’s most famous historical and cultural sites, as part of a media tour to Uzbekistan, APA’s correspondent dispatched to Uzbekistan reports.
Media representatives familiarized themselves with the history and architectural features of Registan Square, which is considered one of the most magnificent architectural ensembles in the Islamic world.
The journalists were provided with detailed information about the Ulugh Beg, Sher-Dor and Tilla-Kari madrasas surrounding the square.
It was noted that in the Middle Ages, Registan was one of the main centers of science, education and cultural life in Samarkand. The Ulugh Beg Madrasa holds a special place in the formation of the square’s architectural ensemble. Astronomy, mathematics, philosophy and other sciences were taught at the madrasa, which was built in the 15th century.
Media representatives were also informed that the Sher-Dor and Tilla-Kari madrasas hold an important place in Registan’s architectural ensemble. Built in the 17th century, these structures are distinguished by their rich tile decorations, patterns and monumental facades.
The journalists familiarized themselves with the colorful tilework, geometric and floral ornaments, domes and other architectural elements used on the facades of the madrasas.
It was noted that Registan, in addition to being one of the historical symbols of Samarkand, played an important role in the city’s development into a center of science, education and culture along the Great Silk Road. Today, the square remains one of the most visited sites by tourists coming to Samarkand.
During the visit, Azerbaijani journalists closely familiarized themselves with the historical significance of Registan Square, the architectural heritage preserved there and the work being carried out to protect historical monuments.
Note that the visit of Azerbaijani media representatives to Samarkand is taking place as part of a media tour organized to Uzbekistan. The purpose of the visit is to present the country’s historical and cultural heritage, tourism opportunities and projects implemented in recent years to the Azerbaijani public.
