Journalists’ rally scheduled for June 23 postponed

Editors’ union postponed the rally scheduled for June 23, as Baku Mayor’s Office did not allow holding the protest action in the appointed place, chief editor of Gundalik Azerbaijan newspaper Shahveled Chobanoglu told the APA.
Chobanoglu said that they twice appealed for holding rally in Nizami district, but the city administration advised holding the protest action in Ukraine square.
“We regard these replies as refusing to sanction the rally. The decision of Baku Mayor’s office is illegal and we will appeal to court,” he said.
Chobanoglu said that the editors’ union will pas decision on rallies at the next meeting. He did not rule out unsanctioned rallies.
Today’s meeting of the editors’ union passed a decision on holding forum on the sate of media on June 29.
Chiefs of media outlets represnteatives of diplomatic offices will participate in the forum. /APA/
